A complaint has been filed with the State Election Commission regarding discrepancies in the voter list released on January 6 for the upcoming municipal elections. A resident of Parvatiya Colony has alleged that the list does not accurately reflect the voter population in several wards based on the demographic data.
Specifically, Ward 18 reportedly has 100.31% voters compared to its population, while some wards show significantly fewer voters. The complainant has demanded that these inconsistencies be rectified.
Ram Singh Yadav, a resident of Parvatiya Colony, sent a letter to the Haryana Election Commission on January 7. In his letter, he claimed that these irregularities arose due to the ward demarcation process conducted in 2023.
According to data obtained through RTI, the total population of the 46 newly created wards is 20,24,748, while the voter list released on January 6, 2025, lists 13,31,025 voters, which accounts for approximately 65.74% of the total population. It is claimed that while some wards have as few as 46% voters, others exceed 100%.
The complaint highlights that Wards 4, 6, 17, 20, and 21 have over 80% voters, Wards 24 and 25 have over 90%, and Ward 18 has 100.31% voters relative to their populations.
Population Calculation Based on Property IDs Questioned
Ram Singh Yadav further pointed out that during the ward demarcation process, population calculations were based on property IDs, which assumed voter numbers to be 140% of the population.
While the total voter count may be correct, Yadav stated that inconsistencies exist across polling booths. He is now awaiting a response from the Election Commission regarding this matter.
Attempts were made to contact the district information officer for comments, but calls went unanswered.
