Faridabad: The Surajkund International Crafts Mela has become a global identity, not just for Haryana but for the entire country.
On Friday, during the inauguration of the 38th Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Surajkund, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated this from the stage.
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, attended as the chief guest and inaugurated the fair. The event will run from February 7 to February 23.
During the inauguration, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat highlighted that India is capturing global attention with two major historic events—the Mahakumbh and the Surajkund International Crafts Mela, which showcases India’s shared artistic heritage.
He emphasized that the Surajkund Mela is not just an opportunity to trade or exhibit handicrafts but serves as a prestigious platform to preserve and promote ancient traditions of artisans and craftsmen. He further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this fair represents the vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India).
The Surajkund Mela is also opening doors of opportunities for Indian handicrafts to establish new markets globally.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated that this mela embodies the spirit of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The world is one family), showcasing not just handicrafts but also India’s rich cultural heritage to the world.
The event was also attended by Heritage and Tourism Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Vipul Goel, Backward Class Welfare and Antyodaya Service Minister Krishna Kumar Bedi, Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Rajesh Nagar, Minister of State for Sports Gaurav Gautam, MLAs from Faridabad, Mela Authority Vice Chairperson Kala Ramachandran, Divisional Commissioner Sanjay June, District Commissioner Vikram Singh, and Commissioner Satendra Kumar Gupta.
